The Cinnamon Trust is a UK wide charity whose wonderful volunteers help people over retirement age and those in the latter stages of a terminal illness by offering all kinds of free pet care.
We are always looking for volunteers across the whole of the UK, volunteering is flexible we are happy to have any help potential volunteers can easily manage, one walk a week is probably the average but if people work shifts or work away we are more than happy to have whatever they can offer as long as the pet owner knows what’s going on that’s fine. Potential volunteers need to register with us so there is a form to complete available from our website or by request either by phone or email. Registration provides volunteers with insurance cover whilst out walking and an identity badge and owners with the peace of mind that our volunteers have been through a registration process prior to being accepted as volunteers. . Couples can register on the same form and use the same referees as long as they are known to both. Under 16s cannot register in their own right but the parent or guardian can be the volunteer and they can walk together, we are also a recognised volunteering opportunity for the D of E award the parent/guardian would still need to be the volunteer for under 16’s.
All volunteers help in the ways that are most appropriate to them. Volunteers take it in turn to visit owners to take their dogs for walks, they help with cat care, volunteers foster pets as one of their family when owners face a spell in hospital, they take pets to the vet, even clean the budgie’s cage out.
We help people over 65 who either live on their own or with someone who is equally unable to manage pet care. We will also support the pet care needs of owners of any age who are in the latter stages of a terminal illness.
The level of support we are able to provide is always dependent on how many volunteers we have in the area. The service we provide is completely free of charge to the owner, so we are always very grateful for any fund raising efforts by our volunteers or donations from well-wishers to help us to go forward into the future.

When a pet is in the Trust’s care either short term or long term because the owner is in care, the owner is kept in touch with visits, if possible, or regular photos and letters.
