North East Sensory Services

NESS is an independent local charity and the first integrated joint sensory service in Scotland. NESS’s mission is “achieving independence for blind and deaf people”.

NESS supports over 6,500 people living across the North East of Scotland, to live as independently as possible with their significant sight and/or hearing loss.

In Angus, we deliver statutory specialist information and advice, rehabilitation for visual impairment, and equipment service on behalf of Angus Health and Social Care Partnership.  You can refer yourself or be referred by another professional.

We also provide a range of non-statutory services enabling people living with a significant sight and/or hearing loss to have a good quality of life. We deliver a number of social groups across Angus bringing people living with a sensory impairment together to enjoy activities and support each other.

We have a postal audio-book library, and we produce audio magazines, information and advice about information and communication technology (ICT) and employment are available through our Resource Centres in Aberdeen or Dundee. We deliver Sensory Awareness (sight loss and deaf awareness) Training, and can transcribe information into different accessible formats, including audio, Braille and British Sign Language video and we have a British Sign Language interpreting service.
